Hand Washing Techniques for Healthcare Industry

hand washing technique

There is little need to explain why hand-washing is important, especially for those in the medical profession. Hands are the first body parts to come in contact with anything that has to be touched or felt. Medical professionals do it almost every time they interact with patients. Hand hygiene is therefore an integral part of doctors’ and nurses’ routine and must be performed frequently – almost every time for each patient.

Hand-washing may appear to be a simple process but in reality it isn’t – for the washing to be effective, they must follow a few hand-washing techniques.

Hand Washing Steps

Though all medical professionals are at risk of contracting diseases from patients, nurses are at greater risk than others because they play a very critical role. The emphasis is on nurses because they are the ones who handle surgical goods, medical equipment, medicines, wound-dressing materials, and bedding, and so on.

Here are 6 steps of hand washing that every nurse should do not only to save themselves from infections but also to protect other patients from contracting diseases that they are not already carrying. When we say hand, we mean the entire hand from fingertips up to the wrist.

  1. Moisten hands first, preferably in warm sterilized soft (hard water is not effective because of its poor foaming quality) running water (tap water). Moistening is recommended because hand-washing solution (such as soap) is more receptive to foaming and is more likely to wash away bacteria thoroughly.
  2. Pour a small quantity of a liquid hand-wash solution (liquid is preferred because they spread evenly and easily foams) on the palm and rub the palms with a rounded action. A rounded action is essential because it is able to foam more and cover the entire area.
  3. Don’t ignore the outer side of your hand (the side opposite of your palm). With the left palm rub the outer side of the left hand and perform vice-versa so that both the hands come out clean. While it is recommended that you perform this step with care, we caution you not to do it too enthusiastically so as to harm the skin. You are your best judge of what is great and how many times you do it.
  4. Give special attention to the space between your fingers – this is the place where bacteria are more likely to lodge and pose a threat. To ensure that this space is able to get a good rubbing, interlock your fingers and glide them up and down a few times. At this point of time, ensure that the cleaning solution has penetrated the finger tips and into the spot just below the nails.
  5. The back of your finger should get some special attention because bacteria are more likely to lodge in the place where you are The rounded join with the muscles below. To clean this spot, use fingers to rub other fingers. Your thumb can really help to perform this motion. Don’t forget the thumb either; give it a good rub too.
  6. Rinse you hands thoroughly with water until all traces of the liquid hand-wash is gone. You can tell this when you no longer feel the slipperiness that is usual to washing liquid. Always pat-dry your hands with a sterilized towel or a paper napkin after a hand wash. If your hospital has an electric hand dryer, you can use it instead of a towel or a napkin.

There are many liquid hand-wash manufacturers in India that produce cleaning supplies. However, remember that liquid hand wash is not the same as a sanitizer – sanitizers are different and cannot substitute and provide the same level of protection as a liquid hand wash.

Smart and a Fail-Proof Protection from Superbug Infection

antibiotics and superbugs

All it takes to prevent infection is a little care in how we keep our hands clean. The most common cause for infection is bacteria and virus and most often it is possible to avoid them by using a liquid hand wash regularly, but there are some that are more contagious and just a wash with soap will not suffice. These types of bacteria and virus are commonly known as superbugs and need a highly potent liquid soap especially made to fight superbug infection.

What really are superbugs? Superbugs are strains of bacteria and viruses that are difficult to control and require specialised medicines to treat. They won’t respond so easily to common antibiotics and extreme infections can lead to hospitalisation for a few days. But the good news is that superbug infection is preventable and all it takes is being careful with one’s hands.

Why Focus on Hands and Washing Hand?

Potentially the whole of our body is a weak area where superbugs can grow and multiply and ultimately enter the digestive system to cause superbug infection induced diseases. Our emphasis is on hands because that is where we first come in contact with the superbug. If this point of transmission can be sanitised, then our war against superbug infection is almost won.

Though we always focus on ourselves for preventing superbug infection; things shouldn’t be this way. We also need to ensure that we don’t spread superbug bacteria to others if we are already infected; especially this is true when the infected individual is at home. Parents must particularly educate kids on the importance of keeping hands clean by using a liquid hand wash.

One of the best ways to keep our hands clean and sanitised is to wash our hands with a liquid hand wash. Washing your hands before eating is a common advice that doctors give us, but that alone is not enough; there is more than you must do; wash hands before/after:

  1. Using a keyboard that you share with others
  2. Driving a car or traveling on public transport
  3. Eating your food or snack
  4. Touching a desk that others use
  5. After using the restroom
  6. In short use a wash hand at least 5/6 times a day

You should be more concerned about ensuring that everyone is using the hand wash. You may find kids resisting, but when you place it at convenient points, you will be incentivizing its use.

Finding a Good Liquid Soap

All products are not the same and soaps alone will not provide you with the near perfect protection you need. Besides, soaps come in the form of cakes and cannot be carried around when you travel. A liquid hand wash on the other hand is a handy stuff that can be easily stored in a handbag.

Since so much is at stake, we recommend that you buy only from Liquid Hand Wash Manufacturers in India with a good reputation and standing. Though there are many hand wash soap manufacturers, not every producer will stick to the highest standards of manufacture and meet the stringiest of quality control.

A good product is one that comes with instruction for use; safety precautions to adopt; information on chemicals used and convenient packing. As a safety precaution, try the liquid soap on a small area of your hand. This is to ensure that you are not allergic to it.

Savoncare is Liquid Hand Wash Manufacturers in India, who are dedicated to providing liquid soap that is sophisticated for the hands ensuring it is gentle to use on hands.

Which is Best? Hand Wash or Alcohol Based Sanitizers

Hand Wash Soap Manufacturers

Disease-causing germs and bacteria are present almost everywhere. It is up to us to protect ourselves from the deadly bacteria and viruses. This includes washing your hands with a simple liquid soap or rubbing hands with alcohol-based sanitizers when soap and water are not available. There has always been a debate which is the best between washing hand with soap and wiping hands with an alcohol-based sanitizer.

Let us first analyze the functionality between hand soap and hand sanitizers. When washing hands with soap the bacteria’s are not killed but the dirt and germ get dislodged and suspended in water.

Hand sanitizers on the other hand which contains 60% or more alcohol are proven to kill bacteria and viruses. It works by disrupting the cell membrane of the bacterium thereby exposing the germ to die instantly. Hand sanitizers may not be effective if you have visible dirt in your hands.

The need for hand wash and hand sanitizers depends upon the situations.

When to Use Hand Wash Over Hand Sanitizers

In many situations, a simple washing of hands with liquid soap is enough to keep diseases at bay. For instance after using the toilet washing hands with liquid soap is more than sufficient in removing micro-organism. Modern day has blessed us with varieties of soap right from a bar of soaps to liquid-based soaps. Hand Wash Soap Manufacturers have come up with various formulation to produce effective anti-bacterial soaps.

The main drawback while using hand sanitizers is, it does not work with too much dirt on hands. In that case, the only way in the situation would be using a good quality hand wash and water to remove germs.

When Sanitizers are Used Over Hand Wash

The ideal place to use hand sanitizers would be in hospitals where practitioners often come in contact with human fluids and there is a potential threat of transfer of germs from one person to another. So there is a need for the environment to be sterile in hospitals to protect the patients from communicable diseases. The practitioners need to keep themselves clean at all times of the day and this is the main reason they use alcohol-based sanitizers.

Another major area where people can use hand sanitizers are places where there is a scarcity of water. In water-scarce countries, alcohol-based hand sanitizers can play a vital role in the safe prevention of disease in people.

There have been facts about sanitizers that using too much can kill good bacteria and your immune system may be compromised. But there is no concrete study surrounding the claim. But regular use of hand sanitizers may cause dryness in hands due to the presence of alcohol.

Techniques to Wash Hands

The technique while washing hands is more important. People often tend to neglect while washing hands. Always use a good quality hand wash from Liquid Hand Wash Manufacturers. Wet your hands properly and take a good amount of hand wash, then rub in-between your hands and fingers for at least for 20 seconds. Then wash your hands thoroughly. This should be sufficient to suspend the germs from your hands.

Which Is Best for Hand Wash: Bar Soap or Liquid Hand Wash?

hand wash liquid soap manufacturers in india

Since the first day of school, we have been taught to wash our hands frequently using soap. Hence, soap is an important part of our daily lives. From time immemorial, the market consisted of only bar soap. However, during recent years, the advancement of liquid hand wash manufacturers has made its way, and everyone is now left with the question – Which is best for washing hands: bars or liquid hand wash? Let us examine the pros and cons of each.

We wash our hands with soap—bar or liquid—because we want to protect ourselves from disease-causing germs and bacteria. Also, the primary reason why we wash our hands is to prevent the spread of germs. The truth of the matter is that bacteria are actually present in a bar of used soap. But studies have found that washing your hands with a bar of contaminated soap doesn’t make any difference—in fact, it dislodges them, preventing the spread of germs. Research has it that no measurable bacteria were found on hands washed with contaminated bar and that it did not lead to the transfer of bacteria from the bar to the skin. The study concluded that bars were safe and recommended for use when washing hands to prevent the spread of disease.

Liquid wash has long been promoted as having anti-microbial properties—in fact, since the start of its introduction. This is has contributed to its popularity and sales. Also, unlike bars, liquid hand wash is dispensed from plastic bottles in individual pumps in order to cleanse the hands. This naturally makes liquid soap the more sanitary option since it is dispensed in single-use measures. The remaining product which is contained within the bottle remains untouched. So it is more convenient when it comes to liquid soap compared to using a bar. Also, liquid wash contains moisturizers, negating the often-cited advantage of using liquid soap as opposed to bars, which is said to have a harsh and drying effect on the skin.

Let’s have a look at what’s inside both the products. Most liquid washes are made of petroleum products. And bar soaps? They are made of saponified animal fat and plant oils—at least, the traditional ones are.

So, which is really better? It all boils down to personal choice. Liquid soaps are more convenient to use and are gentler to the hands.

Which Is Good for The Dishwasher – Liquid Detergent or Detergent Powders?

Bulk Dish Washing Liquid

Which is better to use — liquid detergent or detergent powders? If you own a good dishwasher, this question may be on your mind. Well, the straight answer is it really depends on the dishes being washed, as well as the hardness of the water at your place, and the kind of dishwasher you have.

Both type of detergent come equipped to clean stains and grease. Keep in mind that bulk dish washing liquid designed for hand washing dishes should absolutely not be used because they are formulated differently and produce too many suds which may clog up your washer. These products do not effectively clean dishes and may lead to long lasting damage to your dishwasher if used on a daily basis. If you want your dishwasher to last long, use only detergents meant for use in dishwasher.

Here’s the deal — the two primary active ingredients in any good dishwasher dish detergent are bleach and enzymes. While bleach works to eliminate stains, enzymes work to remove solids. Both are important components found in dish detergent powders. Having said this, note that in liquid form, bleach and enzyme don’t work well together. This is because bleach will kill the enzymes. Enzyme is basically a culture of bacteria designed to eat at proteins and other solids. Such liquid domestic cleaning supplies are formulated differently in order for them to work.
Let’s get down to a comparison of which dish detergent is better for your dishwasher — liquid detergent or detergent powders?

Advantages of Liquid Detergent

It is gentle on your dishware. It dissolves easily and therefore isn’t rough on dishes like some of the other domestic cleaning supplies. Liquid detergent is usually better able to dissolve with water, especially in in cooler water conditions, and it can really affect how wide the liquid can spread inside of your dishwasher. You can also prevent spotting on your dishes by adding a liquid-based detergent. Liquid detergents generally make cleaning of greasy, oily stains easier than powder detergents. Also, they are convenient for pre-treating your dishes if they have really tough stains.

Disadvantages of Liquid Detergent

Your dishwasher is in danger of being clogged up if you use bulk dish washing liquid. Liquid detergent has adverse effects on sensitive dishwasher parts when too much is used per cycle. Dishwashing liquid in dishwasher also leaves unwanted residue. It can leave a thin film on your dishes after the cycle is complete. The liquid can sometimes stick to the inside of your dishwasher causing corrosion and forming a residue. While these deposits are easy to scrape off, they are usually in hard-to-find places and aren’t always convenient to find.

Advantages of Detergent Powder

Powder detergents generally don’t leave a residue when used with the proper cycle. No extra rinsing is required. They also remove stains like clay or mud better than liquids. They are also do a more effective job of tying iron or manganese ions in the water, leading to fewer rust.

Disadvantages of Detergent Powder

Pouring powder into your dishwash dispenser can get messy at times, as you need to measure the amount of powder you want to use each time. It could mean extra clean up around your dishwasher which essentially negates the point of doing everything in a breeze. Also, powder detergent doesn’t dissolve as quickly in water as liquid detergent does, so it may not work for you and clean your dishes as well. As the powder doesn’t dissolve well in water as a liquid detergent, it’s best that you use it in the warm water cycle.

In the end, it all boils down to this: Always follow your manufacturer’s instructions for detergent usage. This will ensure your dishwasher lasts for many years. That’s why, we at Savon Care, formulate products that are highly sophisticated and clean well. We are the leading manufactures of domestic cleaning supplies in India. Why do we go that extra mile in manufacturing our cleaning products?

Cleaning products manufacturers in India

The average household is a danger zone for families—especially those with kids—as there are several toxic cleaning products easily within reach. Many of these products are those we use every day, for instance; dishwash cleaner, toilet cleaner, and multi-surface cleaner amongst other products. Most of these products are toxic, with manufacturers claiming that if used as directed, these products are safe. This leads to a false sense of safety and security.

There are several cleaning products manufacturers in India that claim to have products that are nontoxic, having natural ingredients or claim to be environment friendly. However, there is no standard definition for these. Such products could still be toxic and cause irritation to the skin, mouth and eyes if not used properly.

What most cleaning products manufacturers in India don’t specify clearly is all the dangers they pose to your health. Sure, they come with the odd warning label which reads that you should not get the product anywhere near your eyes or mouth, and that you should keep it out of reach of children. What thy don’t tell you is that they could still be potentially dangerous to your health, and exposure over a long time could lead to lung damage, skin allergies and even fertility issues leading to still birth and miscarriages. These kinds of issues are not really raised in adverts other than in the fine print.

There are several health issues linked to cleaning products, especially since most domestic cleaning supplies are built to remove stubborn stains, grime, oil and grease.  The chemicals included these cleaners are usually highly corrosive and will cause serious harm to health, if not handled properly, or if you are exposed to these products over a long period of time. Which is why you should watch out for fumes getting into your nostrils, or any of the product getting into your mouth, skin or eyes. Though they do their job of killing germs well, they can cause lung damage and even lead to mental health issues due to the nature of chemicals added.

Several research and studies have shown that people face many health problems, like a disruption in their hormone system due to the prolonged use of toxic cleaning products containing potentially carcinogenic chemicals. This could lead to cancer and fetal deformities. Some chemicals have been linked to lung problems and other related problems. It can also irritate the eye, leading to eye irritations and infections.
